“When you witness something like that, it changes your whole perspective. It affects you every second from then on. You question everything. You question yourself. How am I going to change this? How will I make a difference?”

Actions speak louder than words. But can words give rise to action?

The band “TYME” reveal the inspirational odysseys that impelled them to create their newest album with the most striking lyrics of the year - “As long as you care”.

Music has always been intimately intertwined with society, it has played a important part in our mundane (or not) lives. From reflecting diversity of attitudes in generations, to voicing powerful unforgettable revelations, music has withstood it all.

Travelling their world tour “TME” had one last country to visit – Hungary. The people of Hungary have immense passion for music, it is both part of their traditions and culture. With bands like 'The puzzle' and 'The moog' making huge waves in the Hungarian music industry. Indie rock has never been so acclaimed.

“It happened so suddenly, almost overnight!” Cleo from the band says, “we went from having 200 listeners, to 5500 fans, worldwide! with Hungary claiming first place” The band laugh and nod in agreement “it was almost too good to be true” Almost.

How did it start?

“While travelling from the cities of Budapest to Debrecen we passed through several poorer areas of the country. It was around 'Mezoszemere' when our bus broke down, so we decided to do some exploring whilst we waited for our reparations. When we came over this huddle of children, playing ball. We tried to introduce ourselves, but because of the language barrier we got no further than a greeting. But it wasn't necessary anymore once we started playing, they understood completely. I don't remember when the little huddle of children became a crowd, but there were at least 2 classrooms of kids, of all ages playing ball with us, it was crazy! I've never seen so many children with such energy” Rae tells us.

The band tells us how they were surprised to see the children in the streets during school hours, they tried to ask the children but had difficulty with the language yet again. However, a older child managed to explain why these children do not go school - they cannot afford to.

“It was a shock, I mean, you've seen these children on the adverts on TV, you've heard about them on the radio...the children that cannot afford to attend school. But when these children are before you and you can see their potential and energy that they have, its different. Its overwhelming and all you want to do is help”

What did you decide to do after this?

“We had to act. You see, every person has a few opportunities in their life to accomplish something major, something important. This was our call.” Gladys states.
“We created our own charity” the band tell us. The charity's purpose is to educate children, from building schools to paying for class and having mobile tutors. The schools will provide the skills needed in life and in the work world. By educating a child, you benefit the community. A ripple effect.

The band aim to raise money through selling their songs and have even produced a whole album dedicated to the cause “We hope that through raising enough money we can give back to the world, its done so much for us, its only natural to give back more. All the profit from the music that we make will go to this charity, in hopes to give the opportunity of education to all who ask, we want to make a change, and through music is the way to do it, we would love for our fans and listeners to benefit the cause by buying and streaming our album to help us, to help them.”

double page spread moodboard

Small double page spread moodboard

When gathering ideas for my magazine I stuck to traditional music magazine codes and conventions as much as I could, and looked towards other music magazines to set an example. I'm planning on making the style, layout the way my text, photographs, and captions presentation of my music magazine quite similar of other magazines of the same genre.
As an example, my front cover uses the popular layout that is used in both NME and Q, i used their layout as I felt it created impact. The background of my front cover  is plain, as is seen in many known  magazines.

contents page conventions and first draft

 Contents page layout draft 1
Conventions of a contents page.

- masthead of the magazine written on top of page
-one main image
- subsidiary images
-headlines of page index
-page index number
- colour scheme
- sectioned off columns
-promotional features
-magazine logo

What to be aware of during construction
-what are the sub images relevance?
- what are the connotations of the  colours?
- is it organised?

Think about
- size and place of main image
-content headings
- relevance of text
-fonts and colours

Draft 2

I have decided to stick with the colour scheme of the main image for the background colour of the contents page being; grey, black, blue and pink. The text will be in pink as it is a nice contrast to the gray and also conforms to the indie rock theme of the music magazine.
These rough drafts have very bold background colours, however these are just a rough outline and they will be faded into the background more to give a more professional presentation.

The text that i will be including in the sectioned off boxes was inspired from the rough plan that i did previously.  I will be adding the text when the layout is to its best standard.

Changing of the Front cover

Changing of the Front cover

I decided after some questioning of my target audience to change the theme completely of my front cover by changing the hue to a warm tone, cropping in on the picture and adding more text around the main image. I feel like this front cover is much more professional and suited to my chosen genre of indie rock, my target audience also responded positively to my changes.
