First Sketch plan

Planning

First Sketch

I chose to do indie rock as my genre as it a very over looked sub-genre of rock however due to its individual style attracts a large variety of people, its also not typical music magazine you would see and i think it would be interesting to produce.

Masthead
My masthead is called ‘the hum’ for my music magazine, its short and catchy and has connotations to music, its also a bit odd which conforms to the individual unique style of indie rock.

It would be located at the top of the page, being partially covered by the model.

My headline would be
“Alicia Blue (new line) uncovers the myths and madness”

It would be located in the middle of the page, over the models torso.

My subtitles would be
“the strokes return, now better than ever”
 "Oasis"
"arcade fire"
"Get to know Ruta inside out"

It would be located in a gathering underneath the headline in a bullet point formation.

Some ideas for sell lines are
"terrific top 20"
"exclusive interview with surprise band"

Font ideas

I have selected a few fonts that correspond to my music magazines theme, i think that the first font is the most suitable as it is the most clear and striking.

Colour scheme

Font colours

the masthead would be black, this is so a the colour scheme can compliment both background and font. The subtitles and rest of the font will be white or yellow.

Main image
The main image would be of the singer 'Alicia Blue' who will be staring directly into the camera, slightly smiling as to not be seen as intimidating, as even as it is rock, it is indie which has a history of being known as the most irenic of all music genres.

The models face will cover the masthead emphasizing that the focus should be the main image.

The lighting is soft and mild, to keep the focus on the models face while still acknowledging the minimalistic mise-en-scene.

The mise-en-scene would be the models blue/turquoise leather jacket that really stands out in contrast to her black hair and neutral background. The model will have her hair slicked back into a tight high pony tail with fierce but not distracting makeup. The angle will be a center torso shot as to in-cooperate the mise-en-scene.

Vague inspiration was taken from these looks

Target audience
My target audience would be over 14's as indie rock is quite a unknown subgenre and so there is less of a likely hood of the younger generation being aware of it, so i will target the magazine towards the most common audience of indie rock being young adults, I will also be focusing on the female audience however all genders should feel comfortable reading it.
